ROXAS City – Three people drowned in separate incidents in Pontevedra and Panitan towns in Capiz province.
Among them were two brothers – aged 7 and 10 years old – in Barangay Tacas, Pontevedra.
No less than their father fished their bodies out of a fishpond a few meters away from their house.
The father, Reynante Bocala, said his sons went fishing on Wednesday morning. He called out to them but did not get a response, prompting him to head to the fishpond.
Bocala said he sensed something was off when he found two pairs of slippers near the pond.
The father said he dived into the pond and discovered the bodies of his sons embracing each other around 10 feet underneath.
He brought his sons to the Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra where an attending physician pronounced them “dead on arrival.”
On the same day, a lifeless man was found floating at the Panay River in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Panitan.
The body of the 39-year-old Mario Deli was already in a state of decomposition, police said.
From what the police have so far gathered, Deli jumped off a boat while paddling at the Panay River in Barangay Balatucan, Panitan on Monday with his cousin Jonel Daliva.
Deli, a resident of the village, was drunk at the time. According to Daliva, their boat encountered a problem, prompting Deli to jump off and try to swim to the riverbank, police said.
But Deli failed to resurface from the water until his lifeless body was found floating two days later./PN
