KALIBO, Aklan – Eight municipalities showcased their vibrant and colorful festivals during the 61st Aklan Day.
Numancia, Kalibo, Lezo, Ibajay, Banga, Balete, Makato, and Tangalan joined the 2017 Aklan Festivals Showcase on April 24.
Enchanting Balete (Manug-Ukaw of Jose E. Menez Memorial National High School) was adjudged Best in Choreography, while Ibajay Ati-Ati Festival was cited as Most Jolly and Best Performance.
Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Festival won Best in Costume and Props, while Makato Ati-Atihan Festival took home the Most Indigenous award. All winners received P5,000 each.
A “battleground of local festivals,” the Aklan Festivals Showcase was a celebration of the diversity of cultures and traditions in the province.
It was organized by the provincial government through the Provincial Tourism Office.
Other contingents were Banga Saguibin Festival, Lezo Bayangan Festival, Numancia Lechon Parade, and Bugna it Tangalan Festival.
Participants danced on the streets before showing off during the final judging at the Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Sports and Cultural Center.
Gov. Florencio Miraflores, Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo and Provincial Tourism Office head Roselle Ruiz witnessed the parade and presentation.
The Aklan Day is the celebration of the province’s separation from Capiz. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
