After Cardo death scene, ‘Probinsyano’ has nearly half of PH viewers tuned in

Already the undisputed number one show in the country, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” scored monster ratings anew Tuesday, following the death scene of its central character, Cardo, portrayed by Coco Martin.

The Primetime Bida program’s audience share on July 10 was nearly half of TV viewers nationwide, with 44.9 percent, according to data from Kantar Media that includes both urban and rural territories.

This was slightly higher than its 43.7 percent national TV rating on Monday, when Cardo was shown getting gunned down, in front of his wife Alyanna (Yassi Pressman), by over a dozen of Marco’s (JC Santos) thugs. Cardo’s death, it turned out, was just Alyanna’s nightmare.

The world seemed to have stopped for many viewers, whose tweets about their roller-coaster of emotions, while watching the scene unfold, made the episode’s official hashtag top Twitter trends. The scene spawned memes – about Cardo’s “infinite lives” – as well as a viral video of a kid crying in front of the television, while his companions exclaimed, “Patay na si Cardo?!”

Yet, Tuesday’s episode, which showed Alyanna’s actual reunion with Cardo, was not even “Ang Probinsyano’s” highest recorded nationwide rating.

This year, its highest rating so far is 45.3 percent, tallied on July 4. That episode followed Cardo and Alyanna as they rekindled their relationship.

That’s one percentage-point behind the series’ all-time high rating posted on February 2, 2016, which saw Cardo shedding his Paloma cover to rescue Carmen (Bela Padilla) from her captors. Interestingly, that episode also showed Cardo apparently dying after being shot. (ABS-CBN News)
