AFTER his hit primetime series “Halik” airs its finale later this month, Jericho Rosales no longer wants to do soap operas.
Rosales made the rather shocking announcement during the press conference of “Halik” on Thursday.
Explaining his statement, Rosales said he just wants to explore other opportunities coming his way to break the cycle.
“That was unplanned and I think ‘yun na ang nasa puso ko. Mahirap siya i-explain. Baka ang gusto ko lang sabihin, ‘yung ganitong klase ng storya [hindi ko na gagawin]. Gusto kong i-challenge [‘yung sarili ko] na maghain ng something new para sa mga nanonood sa akin,” Rosales told reporters in an interview.
“Napapansin ko lang na nagkakaroon ng pattern sa career ko and I just want to eliminate that. With the availability of iWant, mga pelikula, Netflix and all, feeling ko ang dami kong puwedeng gawin,” he said.
He, however, clarified that he will never quit acting.
“Pinag-uusapan pa lang natin kung ano ang puwede nating gawing bago, na talagang bago. Pero not to stop acting. I will never stop acting. Maybe I will get into producing, writing, directing. This time, it is my responsibility to repackage [myself] and do something new again,” he said.
Rosales said he just needs two to three months to collect his thoughts before he finally embarks on whatever that he would decide to explore.
“Kakanta muna ako ulit, surfing muna ulit, motor muna ulit and then pagbalik ko by the end of the year, I have something new for sure,” he said.
STARTING A FAMILY WITH KIM
Amid all this decision-making, Rosales said he is very fortunate to have Kim Jones, who is nothing but a supportive wife.
“I am so blessed to have a beautiful wife who actually has the same passion. We talked about it already. She’s going to study, I am going to study. She’s building a company. I am rebuilding myself. Her job is abroad. We’ve had this set up for a very long time now na if she wants to study or I want to study for three to five months and magkita kami somewhere, we are fine with that,” he said.
This is also the reason why they have yet to build their own family, Rosales said.
“We feel that sa buhay namin, parang ang daming umagaw nung mga gusto naming gawin sa buhay. Bringing a baby into this world is not a good idea kasi kawawa ‘yung baby. Papatayin namin ‘yung mga pangarap namin dahil gusto namin mag-baby? Wala namang nagpre-pressure sa amin magka-baby. Kultura lang at tradisyon,” he said.
“May anak ako na mahal na mahal din ni Kim. Kaming apat, nagmamahalan kami. It’s a wonderful family. I have the best set up right now,” he added.
Nonetheless, Rosales said they are not closing their doors on having a baby of their own if God blesses them with one.
“We are so open. Who knows ‘di ba? All I know is I am not ready. I don’t want to be an absentee dad. We are both not ready but we are happy. It’s just that having a baby nowadays, there’s seven billion more people in the planet. I am just saying that bago tayo maglagay ng isa pang buhay ulit, let’s make sure that ang attention natin is there,” he said.
Rosales and Jones have been married for almost five years now. (ABS-CBN News)
