MANILA – Filipino-Swede forward Andreas Cahilig is expected to finally make his PBA debut in the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup after signing with Columbian Dyip (formerly Kia Picanto).
Cahilig, who traces his roots from Aklan province, agreed to move to the youth-laden Columbian Dyip after spending the entire Philippine Cup at the reserve list of GlobalPort Batang Pier.
“He can help the team compensate in height, especially this coming import-laden conference (Commissioner’s Cup),” said Columbian Dyip assistant team manager Dr. Iby Bautista.
Standing 6-foot-6, Cahilig is seen as a welcome addition to the frontline of Columbian Dyip, which got Jay-R Reyes and Eric Camson as its tallest players.
Cahilig was expected to get picked in the first round of the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft but suffered an injury during the Draft Combine.
The winner of numerous championships with Cignal HD in the PBA D-League fell on the lap of Batang Pier in the second round.
Cahilig was not the lone acquisition of Columbian Dyip during the Holy Week break as it was also able to net Filipino-American guard Jeramy King from Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
King, who was placed by Painters on unrestricted free agency following the return of Anthony Washington from injury, is expected to help Columbian Dyip out with its inconsistent offense.
Columbian Dyip also renewed the contracts of veterans Carlo Lastimosa, Dylan Ababou, Pedrito Galanza, Roider Cabrera, and rookies Roldan Sara and Jan Jamon./PN
