BACOLOD City – In a ceremony held at the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday, 38 individuals, including city government employees, taxpayers, and private firms, received accolades from the city government for their significant contributions to the community.

This event marked part of the city’s 86th Charter Day celebrations.

Among those honored were Engineer II Julio Cayetano from the City Engineer’s Office and Medical Officer IV Edwin Miraflor from the City Health Office, both recognized as outstanding supervisory employees for 2024.

The non-supervisory awards went to Assistant Statistician Marissa Britania of the Department of Social Services and Development, and Construction Maintenance personnel Leonardo Biantan.

Noteworthy taxpayers were also acknowledged, with Jose Antonio Alonte Jr., Stephanie Chiu, Atty. Roseller Maalat, Catherine Ong, and David Chiu leading the individual category for top real property taxpayers of 2023.

Corporations such as Coca Cola Beverages Philippines Inc., Capital Central Commercial Ventures Corp., SM Prime Holdings Inc., Philippine Airlines Inc., and Megaworld Corporation were celebrated under the corporate category.

The business sector was equally recognized, with Jerry Sy of Silver Dragon Construction Lumber and Glass Supply, Wilkinson Ong of Wilkinson Construction, Alvin Yu of Bacolod Triumph Hardware, Peggy KL Coo of KLC Enterprises, and Alvin Chua of A-A Electrical Supply receiving accolades as top individual business taxpayers.

Corporate accolades went to Nestle Philippines Inc., Coca Cola Beverages Philippines Inc., A O B Corporation, SM City-Bacolod (SPHI), and Mainstream Business Inc. for the SM Bacolod Department Store.

Special citations from Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez included the Mayor’s Citation for organizations like Amado B. Parreno Agricultural Corp., Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade, and several others.

Individual contributors to community welfare such as Fairly Pretta, Sagup Negros Food Waste Mitigation Initiative, and Doctor Edwin Segovia received the “Be the Change” award, recognizing their profound impact through acts of kindness and exceptional service.

The highest civilian honor, the Ang Banwahanon Award, was presented to Nestor “Aboy” Evaristo, Bryant C. Lao, and Marigold Ponce-Tangco, in accordance with City Ordinance No. 494 of 2009.

Mayor Benitez also announced considerations to make employee recognition a regular feature at every flag-raising ceremony, aiming to foster a culture of excellence among city employees. This initiative, he explained, is to encourage others by highlighting exemplary contributions within the workforce/PN.
