KALIBO, Aklan – After six months of rehabilitation, the Philippines’ world-famous tourist destination – Boracay Island – remains one of Asia’s best beaches, according to a US-based travel magazine.
The popular beach getaway for Chinese and Korean tourists ranked number 9 in the Travel+Leisure Magazine’s Top 10 list of best beaches in Asia.
Boracay got a score of 86.90, placing it behind Palawan and Cebu islands in the Top 10.
The famed-island resort re-opened on October last year after it was temporarily closed for six months to undergo rehabilitation.
Last year, Boracay ranked second in Travel+Leisure Magazine list. In 2017, the island landed in third spot.
The popular New-York based magazine published this July the reader’s survey on the islands’ beaches, food, natural views, restaurants, attractions for tourists and the friendliness of the people.
For the first time, Sri Lanka scored 92.12 out of 100 to top the magazine’s list of Asia’s best.
Palawan came next with 90.87, while Bali in Indonesia got the third spot with 90.76.
Maldives southwest of India took 4th (90.48) and Koh Lanta in the southernmost region of Thailand in 5th (90.0).
The other winners in Top 10 best Asia beaches include Noshima in the Seto Island in Japan (6th); Cebu, Philippines (7th); Koh Samui, Thailand (8th) and Java, Indonesia (10th). (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
