CAPIZ — The Provincial Government of Capiz is laying the groundwork for the establishment of the Maragtas Specialty Shop and Pasalubong Center, a proposed one-stop venue that will showcase local products while helping homegrown enterprises expand into wider markets.
Key government officials, academic representatives and private-sector stakeholders gathered at the Capiz Government and Business Center on August 25 to discuss the operational framework for the proposed facility.
The initiative, spearheaded under the administration of Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, aims to position the center as a driver of local economic development, particularly by providing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with a centralized platform to market their products.
Under the brand identity, “Where local pride becomes the gift you bring home,” the center is envisioned to feature Capiz-shell handicrafts, indigenous textiles, processed seafood and traditional culinary products.
The planning session was led by the Provincial Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO), in coordination with the Provincial Tourism, Cultural and Affairs Office (PTCAO), Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) and Provincial Information Office (PIO).
The provincial government also sought the participation of state universities and colleges and local business networks to strengthen product development, improve skills and establish sustainable supply chains for local producers.
PEDIPO Head Rio C. Garcia emphasized the importance of cooperation among government, academe and the private sector in ensuring that the initiative provides lasting opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
He said a coordinated approach would help ensure that MSMEs gain not only exposure for their products but also long-term support to improve their competitiveness and sustain their businesses.
During the meeting, participating officials and industry representatives drafted a governing resolution that will provide the operational framework for the proposed specialty shop and pasalubong center.
The resolution will establish guidelines for the facility’s operations, define the administrative responsibilities of participating offices and set standards for product quality and inventory management.
Once adopted, the resolution will serve as the legal, administrative and budgetary framework for the operation of the center.
The provincial government said it intends to provide sustained support for the facility to maintain its operations and help promote inclusive economic growth across Capiz.
Through the planned center, the province hopes to strengthen the market presence of locally made products while providing residents and visitors with a centralized venue to discover and bring home products that reflect Capisnon culture and heritage./PN
