COLEEN Garcia has decided to give birth at home.
The 27-year-old star, who is due to give birth this September, said her first choice was to deliver her firstborn via unmedicated water birth.
She said, “I knew from the very beginning that I wanted an unmedicated water birth, with less interventions as possible.
“But doctors had always discouraged me from going for a home birth, and it made me anxious.
“I was then hoping for an unmedicated water birth in a hospital, just to be safe, since some hospitals did offer that.
“However, because of the pandemic, they had to put that method on hold.”
She eventually decided to do home birth, but her reason was not entirely because of COVID-19.
The soon-to-be mom wants her husband Billy Crawford to be by her side when she delivers their baby boy.
Coleen continued, “Although a lot of hospitals are at full capacity, and there’s also the fact that Billy wouldn’t have been able to join me during the delivery.
“My main driving force for wanting to have a home birth, more than anything, is just to have the peaceful birth I’ve wanted from the start.”
While she’s not necessarily worried about the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals, the actress said she just feels more comfortable giving birth at home than at a hospital.
Coleen acknowledged that home birthing will not be easy, so she and her team already came up with a contingency plan.
She said, “My team is made up of a midwife, a nurse, and a doula, then we have an OB on call lang in case we need to transfer to a hospital.
“We’re also prepared for any emergency, and we do have a doctor and hospital in mind just in case things go wrong.
“We’re hoping for the best, but it’s still important to be safe and prepared.”
Coleen and Billy announced that they are expecting their first child through their social media accounts on May 1, 2020.
The good news came two years after they tied the knot on April 20, 2018. (Pep)
