Dumangas LGU shutdown; Mayor on self-quarantine

ILOILO City – Mayor Ronaldo “Onal” Golez is self-quarantining for 14 days.

“I, along with a number of employees of the local government unit (LGU) of Dumangas, had been exposed to a person who had contact with a coronavirus-positive case,” said Golez, adding his two-week quarantine right away started after his announcement on Tuesday.

He immediately suspended all work at the municipal hall for two days beginning yesterday and ordered it closed.

The confirmed case that Golez was referring to was the 35-year-old male call center agent of IQOR.

According to the mayor, he was exposed to a family member of the call center agent who visited the Dumangas municipal hall.

The family member was a former LGU employee, he disclosed.

The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.

These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth.

Aside from Golez, at least six employees had been quarantined and underwent swab test.

The municipal hall, while closed, would be disinfected, according to Golez.

COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan City, China in December 2019.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.

Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.

To date, there is no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-2019. But possible vaccines and some specific drug treatments are under investigation. They are being tested through clinical trials./PN
