Prez aide insists Noy admin closed Navy acquisition contract

MANILA – Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go insisted that no meddling of any sort happened in the P15.74-billion Philippine Navy frigate deal.

“Tapos na ito sa panahon ng Aquino administration,” Go told a Senate inquiry yesterday. “Walang nabago, walang binago, walang nakialam, at walang pinakialaman sa kontrata.”

Go was reported to have interfered in the multibillion-peso project.

He claimed that his office received a complaint on the frigate deal and merely endorsed this to the “proper agency.” He lamented that he was being “castigated” for a “mere routinary endorsement.”

Go did not name the agency he was referring to.

Accusing him of interference was an attempt to discredit the Duterte administration, said the presidential aide.

“Pangit man pakinggan pero matatawag po na photo-finish ang kontrata dahil hinabol po ito bago matapos ang Aquino administration,” said Go.

“Inosente at idinamay lang po ako sa isyung ito upang siraan ang administrasyon ni Pangulong Duterte,” he said.

‘FAKE NEWS’?

All these information on the frigate deal came about because of “irresponsible reporting,” Go claimed.

He asked the Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media to invite the news website Rappler and the Philippine Daily Inquirer to attend its hearing on “fake news.”

Rappler and the Inquirer were among the first to report on Go’s alleged interference in the acquisition.

“Baka pwede po ninyong ipatawag ang Rappler at Inquirer sa susunod na hearing at para matanong naman sila sa sinulat nilang balita,” said the presidential aide. “Hindi lang po ako ang biktima dito, marami po tayo.”/PN
