IN the heart of Iloilo lies a deeply unearthed song – sung with veins gushing trains of stories of heroic inspiration. A successful collab of passion and dedication; heard are the thumping of the lands because of this joyous celebration.
Calinog, Iloilo, home of the authentic pride of Filipinos, once again laid the mats for their annual showcase of undying culture and devotion via the Hirinugyaw-Suguidanonay Festival.
The festivity engraves the meticulous combination of Catholic Christian and indigenous beliefs, where one is extra ready to immerse with. It is an invitation to plunge deeper and view the riches of the masses – specifically the immaculate culture of Panay Bukidnon and nearby communes.
Halved, the first portion paints the setting of the indigenous peoples in the pre-Hispanic era and the other is a leap of prayers for Senior Sto. Niño, the child Jesus.
This moment gathers all people from across the country to witness the breathing Hinilawod, an epic poem orally transmitted from early inhabitants of Central Panay. Chanted verses; folkloric air oozing from the music, and the oxygen is the very essence.
Adorned with colorful headdresses and polished choreographies, this fete is one of the most sought-after events in the province.
Hirinugyaw-Suguidanonay Festival is one of the treasures of every Calinognon that serves as a bridge for the stories not to remain buried in the bedrock of the past – but continue its rigorous flow in the veins of this generation to last./PN
