HUA SIONG College of Iloilo outlasted Santa Clarita International High School Primes 99-90 to capture the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Iloilo leg crown at the Powerhouse Gym in Gaisano City Mall in La Paz, Iloilo City.

HuaSiong will represent Iloilo in the NBTC Region 6-A Finals on Feb. 23 to 24 in Buenavista, Guimaras against champions from Capiz, Antique, and Aklan, and two finalists from the host island province.

Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Mark Nonoy led HuaSiongwith 43 points, including nine 3-point conversions, while ReynoldTupas chipped in 16 markers.

Hua Siong waxed hot on the offensive end courtesy of outside hits by Nonoy for an early double-digit lead, which later grew to its largest 82-60 with over a minute left in the third period.

Primes made its last push in the final quarter, coming as close as 7 points with three minutes left in the game, but its turnovers and missed shots allowed HuaSiongto clinch the win.

“I am very blessed to have players like Nonoy and the group. We are on the same page all year,” said HuaSiong head coach Vincent Conlu. “I also want to give credit to our other players. I know the pressure they are facing every tournament.”

Also in Hua Siong were Victor Demadara, Jesse Sullano, Jean Beliran, Paul Guerrero, Lee Jimera, JJ Gerochi, Carlo Paguntalan, Paolo Villariza, Richie Galvez, Victor Palileo, Lorenzo Yu, Jims Jimiera, and Jasper Antijendra.

Ralph Bajonposted 22 points, Marvin Cuerbo added 16, while Franc Steven Tono and Wilmer Dalumpines had 14 and 13, respectively, for the Rodel Camacho-mentored Primes./PN
