MANILA –The legacy of the Younghusbands in Philippine Football has ended following James’ decision to hang his boots.

James – Phil’s older brother – announced his formal retirement on his social media accounts on Thursday.

The younger Younghusband, on the other hand, retired from the game November last year.

“(It’s) time to say goodbye. Thank you for the amazing memories. I have loved playing this game,” wrote James.

“Thank you to my family, bosses, managers, coaches, team mates, opponents, and all my supporters who have been part of my professional career,” the former midfielder added.

The 33-year-old Filipino-British’s last professional club was Ceres-Negros FC. The team ruled the 2019 Philippines Football League and 2019 Copa Paulino Alcantara.

James first played professional football in 2005 with English football club AFC Wimbledon. He also made his first national team appearance the same year.
The Younghusbands then moved to the Philippines and became mainstays for the Azkals.
“I feel lucky to have experienced wonderful memories and I am thankful for every moment of my time with my clubs and country,” said James, who wrapped up his international career with 12 goals in 101 appearances.

Aside from James’ one-year stint with Ceres-Negros, he also suited up for local football clubs Loyola Meralco Sparks and Davao Aguilas./PN
