KALIBO, Aklan – The newly-organized food security task force in this capital town is set investigate the supposed overpricing of agriculture commodities in the public market here.

Mayor Emerson Lachica instructed councilor Matt Aaron De Guzman to lead the task force’s activity.

“The task force was organized by mayor Lachica after he received reports of alleged overpricing. This was done together with the agriculture sector and the Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Council,” De Guzman said.

Vendors in the Kalibo public market are reportedly taking advantage of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic by hiking prices of commodities such as vegetables, fruits and fish, among others.

“We are planning to conduct inspection anytime soon at the market to determine who among the vendors are charging expensive agricultural commodities to their consumers,” De Guzman added./PN
