SAN JOSE, Antique – A man and a woman were found dead along the national highway in Barangay Cubay-Napultan, Sibalom, Antique, police said.
The 32-year-old Atila John “Rambo” Villavert of Barangay 5, San Jose and 19-year-old Nikki Ann Latuga of Barangay Bungsod, Sibalom sustained gunshot wounds on their heads and bodies, according to municipal police chief Senior Inspector Adolfo Pagharion.
Village officials reported to the police around 6 a.m. on Friday. The bodies were found at 5:30 a.m.
A motorcycle was found near the victims.
Pagharion said Villavert and Latuga were on board the motorcycle from San Jose when they were shot.
A resident living around 80 meters from the crime scene told the police that he heard the gunshots around 12:30 a.m. on the same day.
Pagharion said they are looking into the possibility that the shooting was drug-related.
He added that Latuga used to be a live-in partner of Elzer Ybera, who was arrested in a bar in Sibalom for illegal possession of drugs and firearms in October 2015.
Ybera was currently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in San Jose, Pagharion said.
The police chief added that Ybera’s connection to Latuga can link her to the illegal drug trade.
Manwhile, San Jose police station chief Superintendent Mark Anthony Darroca said Villavert is a newly identified drug personality.
This is based on intelligence reports from the Antique Police Provincial Office for the past three motnhs, Darroca added.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Villavert and Latuga in a funeral parlor in Sibalom.
Investigation was still ongoing as of press time./PN
