MANILA – Guimarasnon Jovelyn Gonzaga does not regret spending her whole collegiate volleyball stint with Central Philippine University (CPU) in Iloilo City despite the fact she received offers from several UAAP and NCAA schools.

“They approached (UAAP and NCAA schools) me every time CPU played in the University Games, but I politely declined because I was already contented (being a Golden Lion) and I wanted to repay the school,” Gonzaga shared during the Sports LANG podcast aired on Sunday night.

“Another reason why I decided not to play in Manila was because of my fear of getting bullied since I am from the province. I (also) did not want to be far from my family,” added the five-foot-eight hitter. The Guimarasnon only started playing in Manila after her stint with the Golden Lions. Bacolod City’s University of St. La Salle tapped her to be their guest reinforcement in the Shakey’s V-League.

Gonzaga currently plays for the Philippine Army in Premier Volleyball League and Cignal HD in Philippine Superliga.
She captained the women’s national volleyball team during the 2015 Southeast Asian Games./PN
