SAN JOSE, Antique – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Antique approved an ordinance declaring every last Friday of June as the “Pista kang Kagubatan.”
The ordinance was passed amid the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month, mandated under Proclamation No. 237 series of 1998.
Antique’s Pista kang Kagubatan calls for an annual tree-planting activity to rehabilitate major watershed areas and open and denuded forestlands in the province.
In a meeting, Antique municipal environment and natural resources officers have agreed to conduct cleanup activities in coastal areas, rivers and esteros in the province this month.
“The cleanup drive will also engage community participation, making families more aware of their responsibility to manage and dispose their garbage properly. Beating plastic pollution should start at home,” said Antique Environment and Natural Resources Office head Vivian Marfil, who facilitated the meeting.
On June 29, a tree-planting activity will be held in Barangay Aningalan, San Remigio town. (With a report from PIA/PN)
