ILOILO City – In a series of anti-drug operations, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) seized shabu worth approximately P2.21 million and apprehended six suspects, including four high-value individuals, over the course of a single day.

According to official records from the PRO-6, the operations, which took place from the morning of July 10 to July 11, involved two major raids in Iloilo City and its surrounding areas, netting a total of 325 grams of shabu.

The first major bust occurred at around 10:50 a.m. on July 10 in Barangay Carvasana, Calinog, Iloilo. Officers arrested a 45-year-old male, known as “Joms”, formerly associated with the now-disbanded Chiva-Fajardo robbery group.

“Joms” was found in possession of 250 grams of shabu, valued at P1.7 million, along with an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol.

The arrest followed an undercover purchase of five grams of shabu worth P38,000 by operatives from the Calinog Police Station.

A subsequent operation in Barangay Desamparados, Jaro, Iloilo City, led to the arrest of five more suspects around 4:23 p.m. This raid resulted in the recovery of an additional 75 grams of shabu, estimated to be worth P510,000.

Brigadier General Jack Wanky, PRO-6 director, praised the diligence and effectiveness of the police units involved.

“Their performance is commendable. Despite these successes, we must maintain the intensity of our campaign and focus on dismantling the networks of these criminals,” said Wanky. He emphasized that the operations should serve as a warning to those involved in the drug trade.

The suspects have been charged under the Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Additionally, “Joms” faces charges for illegal possession of a firearm./PN
