MALL and supermarket chain SM said it would temporarily close down all its supermarkets for disinfection on Maundy Thursday, SM Hypermarket’s general manager said Saturday.

In an interview with radio DZMM, Arnold Paul Daluz explained that this is to further ensure that customers and their staff are protected from the spread of the coronavirus disease.

“On Maundy Thursday we will close all stores, magsa-sanitize tayo. Aayusin natin isa-sanitize natin ang lahat ng mga tindahan natin sa Thursday,” Daluz said, adding that all SM Hypermarket and Savemore markets will be affected by the day-long shutdown.

Daluz earlier reiterated that they have been doing round-the-clock disinfections in their supermarkets to help contain the spread of the virus, which has infected over 3,000 in the country.

“We’re disinfecting every day, every night actually pagkapasok dini-disinfect ang pushcarts lahat sila nag-a-alcohol to make sure that everyone [is safe],” Daluz said.

Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine on March 17, closing all establishments except for those providing basic goods such as restaurants, supermarkets, and pharmacies.

Some parts of Visayas and Mindanao have also enforced local quarantine measures.(ABS-CBN News)
