ILOILO City – A bulk water supply facility currently being built in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo promises to cover the water requirements of the town and the nearby Dumangas.
Expected to generate 10,000 cubic meters per day, the P75-million facility – which will also serve as a treatment plant – is seen to ensure stable water supply in the two municipalities.
“It could supply the water requirements of the entire Dumangas and Barotac Nuevo towns,” said Engr. Remus P. Braganza, general manager of the Dumangas-Barotac Nuevo Water District.
The water district has partnered with the Metro Manila-based private company Castan Corp. in building the facility near the Jalaur River in Barangay Salihid, Barotac Nuevo.
The project was a public-private partnership, with the water district under the local government of Dumangas.
The water district assured that it will not spend a single centavo, with the private company shouldering all the construction expenses.
The new facility’s expected generation capacity will be on top of the 2,500 cubic meters that the water district currently generates every day.
Houses for super typhoon “Yolanda” survivors built in Dumangas (7,460 units) and Barotac Nuevo (260) will be covered by the new facility.
These houses require an estimated 6,000 cubic meters a day.
With the 7,000 households that the water district caters to, 2,500 cubic meters do not suffice, Braganza stressed.
The water district hopes the bulk water supply facility becomes operational by next month./PN
