MANILA – The Philippines is moving in the “right direction” according to a majority of Filipinos, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed Thursday.

More Filipinos at 75 percent believe that the country is in the right direction, five points higher than the 70 percent in June this year.

On the other hand, 22 percent said the country is in the “wrong direction” while 3 percent did not provide an answer.

Belief that the country is in the right direction rose in all areas of the country, with the highest percentage recorded in President Rodrigo Duterte’s bailiwick Mindanao at 89 percent.

This is followed by Balance Luzon at 73 percent, Visayas at 69 percent and Metro Manila at 65 percent.

Malacañang welcomed the results of the survey.

“We view this as a reflection of our people’s continued trust and confidence in the President and an affirmation that the policies and programs of the current administration are on the right track,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said in a statement Friday.

Meanwhile net satisfaction with the performance of Duterte and his administration was higher among those who say that the Philippines is in the right direction and lower among those who say that the country is in the wrong direction, the SWS explained.

Duterte recorded a +72 “excellent” net satisfaction rating among those who say that the country is in the right direction while his administration registered a +66 “very good” net satisfaction rating.

The President meanwhile got a “neutral” -3 remark among those who say that the Philippines is in the wrong direction while his administration received a “neutral” +1 rating.

A September SWS survey released earlier this month showed that the President’s overall net satisfaction rating dropped to 48 classified as “good” from “very good” as less Filipinos say they are satisfied with his performance.

Duterte “emphasized in numerous occasions that, as government workers, we are here to serve the people,” Panelo said. “Our objective as public servants is thus being able to perform our respective duties well.”

He added: “Therefore, we treat the results of this recent survey not as an accolade but as an inspiration for our men and women in the government as they persist in carrying on with their roles in the service.” (Reports from ABS-CBN News and Philippine News Agency)
