ILOILO City – This holiday season everybody should be extra cautious. “Akyat bahay” or robbery groups are just waiting for the right opportunity to strike, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
“I have instructed all police units not to lower their guard. Focus on criminals. Conduct more operations against loose firearms. Maximize our presence,” said Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, Western Visayas police director.
He also wanted the security measures bolstered in establishments that deal with money such as banks, pawnshops, money remittance centers, and money changers, even public markets.
Close the doors, Pamuspusan suggested.
“Walang namang organized na robbery group dito pero kung makikita nila na may opportunity na open ang gate, robbers will take advantage of that. So dapat secure ang ating mga pintuan,” he said.
Pamuspusan urged barangay councils to allow their barangay tanods to augment the police.
“Barangay officials, especially village watchmen, are a big help to our police. We really need them,” Pamuspusan said./PN
