ILOILO City – There are 381 new school buildings in Western Visayas as academic year 2018-2019 opened, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH regional assistant director Jose Al Fruto said they fast-tacked the completion of the additional buildings in time for the opening of classes.
The buildings are for elementary and secondary schools. Schools offering the senior high program were provided with workshop and laboratory buildings.
The construction of the buildings was done in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).
It aims to address the growing student population in various schools in the region, including those in remote areas.
The completed school building projects include a total of 851 classrooms with a budget amounting to P1.19 billion from DPWH and DepEd funds.
Fruto said DPWH is looking forward to building more classrooms and better learning facilities for students this year. (With a report from PIA/PN)
