ILOILO – A 14-year-old student died while two others were in critical condition after their motorcycle collided with a dump truck at around 12:25 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Tinucuan, Dueñas town.
“Rejie,” from Barangay Navalas, died while being treated at a hospital, police said.
Grade 10 student “Renz,” 15, a resident of the town’s Barangay Navalas, was driving the motorcycle. Riding with him were Rejie and “John,” 15, from Barangay Capay-Capay, both Grade 9 students.
Renz and John were also brought to Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Passi City for treatment.
According to Senior Master Sergeant Jerom Emplasta, an investigator from Dueñas Municipal Police Station, the victims were from Dueñas General Comprehensive High School and were heading home when the incident occurred.
The dump truck, meanwhile, was en route to Pototan town. Rey Anthony Salcedo, 47, from Barangay Guadalupe, Janiuay was driving the reportedly government-owned vehicle.
Emplasta explained that upon reaching the curved part of the Barangay Tinucuan road, the motorcycle attempted to overtake another vehicle when it inadvertently collided with the incoming dump truck.
Additionally, he noted that the students were not wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, the dump truck driver is currently under the temporary custody of Dueñas police./PN
