ILOILO – One died in a collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV), a sedan, a delivery truck, and a motorcycle in Barangay Sambag, Zarraga town around 11 a.m. yesterday.
The 43-year-old Julius Desucatan of Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo town, driving a Ford Everest, died of severe head and body injuries.
Desucatan got trapped inside his mangled vehicle. He was rushed to the Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center in Barangay Tagbak, Jaro, Iloilo City but died there, said Police Captain Raffy Señerez, chief of the Zarraga police station.
Desucatan’s two women companions were also brought to the hospital. They were in stable condition, police said.
The Zarraga police said the Ford Everest overtook the Toyota Vios it was tailing and hit the oncoming delivery truck driven by Ariel Sira of Barangay Trapiche, Oton from the opposite direction. The SUV then hit the Vios while the motorcycle also collided with the truck, police added.
“Layo pa lang samtang gapakadto kami, nakita ko na ang Everest nga nag-overtake sa ginasundan niya nga mga salakyan. Dasig ang dalagan niya kag indi na siya kabalik kay damo mga salakyan. Karon nakita ko nga daw tutok gid sa akon, ginwaslik ko ang akon truck sa higad pero nalab-ot ‘ya (Everest) gid kilid ko,” said Sira who was unscathed.
Toyota Vios driver Bong Cortez sustained a minor injury on his leg while driver Florante Paraiso was unharmed after he jumped off his motorcycle, police said./PN
