BORACAY – Local officials consider integrating into one ticket the environmental and terminal fees paid by tourists going to Boracay Island.
Mayor Ciceron Cawaling of Malay, Aklan agreed with this “in principle,” according to Gov. Florencio Miraflores.
The local government of Malay charges local and foreign tourists at the jetty port in Barangay Caticlan a P75 environmental fee, while the provincial government collects a P100 terminal fee. Aklanons are exempted from paying such fees.
All passengers shall then pay a P25 fare for a motorized boat ride to the island.
On their way back to Caticlan, tourists shall pay another P100 terminal fee at the Cagban port in the island.
Integrating the environmental and terminal fees will ensure seamless travel for the visitors, Miraflores said.
“This will minimize lines at the jetty port. Right now separate booths collect the environmental and terminal fees,” he said.
Cooperatives operating the motorized boats may soon be included in the planned unified ticketing system, Miraflores disclosed.
A total of 1,348,064 tourists went to Boracay in the first nine months of this year, records showed. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
