BACOLOD City – The City Enforcement Team (CET) of the City Legal Office (CLO) confiscated 10 weighing scales found to be defective at the Central Public Market during a spot inspection on March 30.
The weighing scales will be returned to the vendors after their recalibration by the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO), said CET head Rey Demisana.
The vendors, however, will pay calibration fees.
Under City Ordinance No. 565, or the Revised Local Revenue Code of Bacolod, the CTO is authorized to test, calibrate and seal weighing scales.
The operation of CET was also in line with the implementation of Republic Act (RA) No. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
Article 65 of RA 7394 stated that any person who shall violate the provisions of paragraphs (a) to (f) and paragraph (I) of Article 64 or its implementing rules and regulations shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than P200, but not more than P1,000 or by imprisonment of not more than one year or both, at the discretion of the court.
Demisana appealed to vendors to calibrate their weighing scales to avoid penalties and violations.
In December last year, he said they confiscated several defective weighing scales in Libertad and Burgos public markets./PN
