BACOLOD City – Ten of the 14 barangays in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental have been declared drug-free.
They were San Miguel, Cubay, Yubo, Haguimit, La Granja, Ayungon, Nagasi, RSB, Ara-al, and Balabag.
The declarations were made by their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils, and validated and concurred by Mayor Luis Jalandoni III and Superintendent Orly Gabinete, city police chief.
There must be no drug den, user, pusher, protector, or any person involved in the drug trade for a barangay to be declared drug-free, said Gabinete.
Barangays 1, 2 and 3, and Barangay Batuan remain drug-infested.
Drug-clearing operations will continue in these villages, Gabinete said.
Declaring drug-free barangays is in accordance with Dangerous Drug Board regulations.
Senior Superintendent William Señoron, provincial police director, was present during the declaration.
Residents of the drug-free barangays must do their share in preventing the entry of illegal drug personalities, Señoron said./PN
