BACOLOD City – As of Sept. 1, more than 10 percent of Negros Occidental’s target population have already been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, head of the Provincial Incident Management Team, they have to vaccinate 70 percent of the 1,825,000 population of the province to reach herd immunity.
Data from the PIMT showed that 263,580 Negrenses already completed their vaccination either of the two-dose or single-dose jabs, while 79,910 were waiting for their second doses.
Caelian also acknowledged the willingness of many residents to get vaccinated as shown in the number of people lining up in vaccination centers.
“They see the need to have themselves and their families protected especially now where there is a spread of the highly infectious Delta variant,” Diaz said.
The province also expects additional COVID-19 vaccines, Caelian said./PN
