10 rescued, 10 missing after Antique-bound motorbanca capsizes off Romblon

ANTIQUE – Ten people were rescued while 10 others were missing after a motorbanca capsized off Caluya in this province on Monday morning, August 26.

The Philippine Coast Guard in Romblon was still searching for the missing passengers as of this writing.

Among those rescued are the following:

* Rhea Noticion De Vera, 25, of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (sibling of a Caluya resident, returning from an outing)

* Jarenz Bernal, 16, of Poblacion, Caluya

* Joseph Terelyos, 28, of Silang, Cavite

* Frederick Lompero, 34, of Libmanan, Bicol (Contractor for the LGU under Equator Company)

* Luisa Ojano, 47, of Caluya

* Alvin Salodes, 30, of Barangay Poblacion, Caluya

* Arnel Belleca, 53, of Mountain View Bangkal, Davao City

* MBCA Urimy captain Jonald Patricio, 33, of Upper Talaptap, Poblacion, Caluya

* crew Arnold Terelyos, 35, of Silang, Cavite, and Gary Patricio, 43

All 10 were taken to San Jose Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as of this writing.

Caluya police said MBCA Urimy carrying 16 passengers was traveling from Boracay Island to Caluya when it encountered rough seas, causing it to capsize.

Local fishermen in the area immediately responded and rescued the victims, police added./PN
