ROXAS City – After a thorough evaluation, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) here has named 10 barangays as finalists in the search for villages with the “best practices” addressing the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Roxas City has 47 barangays. They were assessed as part of the search called “Barangay Search for CURES”. CURES is the acronym for “COVID-19 Unified Response and Effective Strategies”.
The 10 barangays are Bago, Talon, Barangay I, Barra, Barangay X, Punta Tabuc, Lawaan, Milibili, Culajao, and Cabugao.
They will be subjected to another round of assessment and onsite inspection from Dec. 7 to 11.
Here are the prizes:
* first place – P100,000
* second place – P50,000
* third place – P30,000
* fourth to 10th places – P5,000 each
The city government of Roxas and DILG-Roxas City launched the search last month as a pandemic-related incentive program encouraging cooperation from the grassroots.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said this unique scheme should motivate and inspire barangay leaders to initiate activities that further protect their constituents from the viral illness “kapareho sang pag-implementar sang facemask/shield ordinance, physical distancing, pagdigamo sa mga locally stranded individuals kag madamo pa.”
DILG-Capiz director John Ace Azarcon commended the city government for coming up with this program.
“Pinasahi ini nga programa nga amon igarekomendar nga mangin kabahin sa Local Government Academy sang DILG. Isa ini ka innovative strategy. Roxas City pa lang ang una nakahimu sini,” said Azarcon./PN
