ILOILO – After a dialogue with municipal mayors, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) recalled the order removing from their posts 10 chiefs of police.

The following were reinstated to their posts yesterday:
* Chief Inspector Reymund Celoso of Barotac Nuevo
* Senior Inspector Germigenes Eulatic of Tigbauan
* Senior Inspector John Paul Guay of Zarraga
* Senior Inspector Elmer Villaruel of Lemery
* Inspector Ceferino Gelpe of Igbaras
* Inspector Ruben Perra of San Rafael
* Inspector Roy Castro of Mina
* Inspector Venancio Rendon of Barotac Viejo
* Inspector Robert Jason Pancha of Guimbal, and
* Inspector Sullen Domingo of Batad.
The mayors sought a dialogue with Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director, following the sudden relief of their police chiefs. They complained of not having been informed or consulted.

Under the law, local chief executives have the power to choose their police chiefs.
The dialogue was held on Saturday.

Two weeks ago, Gentiles reshuffled 22 police chiefs, citing their poor performance in the campaign against illegal drugs. But last week he ordered six to return to their posts after their mayors complained.

Yesterday, PRO-6 announced that, “Our regional director reconsidered the relief of 10 more police chiefs.”
“They were given more time to do their job,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson.
Thus from the 22 police chiefs who were originally sacked, only six get to stay in their new posts.
“They performed poorly in their last areas of assignment,” Gorero explained.

During Saturday’s dialogue, the mayors vowed to continuously support the police.
The 22 Iloilo police chiefs were part of the 62 reshuffled police chiefs across Western Visayas. The others were from Aklan (14), Antique (13), Capiz (10), and Guimaras (3).

Mayor Rey Grabato of Mina criticized the reshuffling. He said his police chief, Inspector Castro, was doing well in the campaign.
Long before President Rodrigo Duterte came into office, Mina was already waging war against illegal drugs, Grabato stressed.
“We started two years ago. So who else will our policemen arrest when we’ve arrested all the drug suspects?” he asked.
Castro was transferred to Anilao town and was replaced by Senior Inspector Ronald Paclibar from the municipality of Dueñas.
Grabato said he was not informed of Castro’s transfer.

Meanwhile, Cabatuan’s Mayor Ronilo Caspe said there should have been consultation with the mayors, stressing the importance of trust and confidence between local government executives and police chiefs.
“How can we support the chief of polices if we don’t trust them?” Caspe asked./PN
