ILOILO – Ten local government units (LGUs) from various provinces in Western Visayas have completed the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program (MGLP) of the Department of Health (DOH).
Dr. Mary Joy Castroverde, DOH Health Leadership and Governance Program coordinator, said the 10 LGUs were recognized during the MGLP Colloquium as part of the program’s second cycle.
“The MGLP Colloquium served as commencement exercise for participants who have completed the three MGLP leadership-training modules and were evaluated to have effectively implemented their Municipal Health System Development Roadmap for their respective municipalities,” she said.
The 10 LGUs which completed the program include Jamindan in Capiz; Tangalan, Buruanga, Balete, and Numancia in Aklan; Lambunao and Cabatuan in Iloilo; Bugasong and Sebaste in Antique; and Binalbagan in Negros Occidental.
According to DOH Region 6, the municipal health leadership teams were able to develop responsive health systems to address challenges in their municipalities through the two-year MLGP.
The program aims to empower municipal health leaders to be “bridging leaders” in order to transform their local health systems and make health programs and services work for the community, especially the poor.
The modular training was provided by the University of the Philippines Visayas as academic partner. Coaching and monitoring sessions were conducted by personnel of DOH Region 6.
The MLGP was implemented in partnership with Zuellig Family Foundation. (PIA/PN)
