ILOILO – A 10-year-old boy drowned in Barangay Simsiman, Calinog town.
“Ranger”, a resident of the barangay, went together with his friends to the Jalaur River around 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 11.
“May nagtawag diri samon together sang rescue naton sa MDRRMO [Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office] kag nagresponde sa nalumos sa nasambit nga barangay, kag pag abot didto sang investigator naabtan gid nila didtu nga bata nga nagalutaw na,” Police Major Myles Dieron, chief of the Calinog Municipal Police Station (MPS) told Panay News.
He added: “Gindapatan pa nila sang first aid mismo sa may site pero wala gid matabangan kag ginabawian gid ni sang kabuhi,”
The boy was declared dead upon arrival at the Calinog District Hospital.
Although the water level dropped after days of rain and flooding in the area, there were still parts of the river with a higher water level, according to Dieron.
He also said the Jalaur River was not safe for minors because of its strong water current.
“Daw batuhon ini ang area sang river kag masulog ang ilig sang tubi te kung minor lang ang maligo indi gid safe, especially kung wala sang upod nga guardian abi nga mabantay,” added Dieron./PN
