GUIMARAS – The provincial government here through its Provincial Office for Agriculture Services (POAS) assured enough supply of mangoes during this year’s Manggahan Festival.

The festivities will kick off on April 29 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Barangay San Miguel, Jordan town with the opening of the agri-fishery and eco-tourism expo and Manggahan Food Festival.

It will culminate on May 22 to celebrate the 31st provincehood anniversary of Guimaras.

Provincial Agriculturist Alvin Nava said some 100 tonnes of mangoes await visitors.

Of the 100 tonnes, POAS allocated 10 tonnes for the four-day Mango-Eat-All-You-Can from May 19 to 22.

Nava said they have expanded the venue for eat-all-you-can this year; around 150 people per batch will be accommodated. The venue can cater eight batches a day.

Each guest will be given a chance to consume unlimited number of mangoes for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, despite the allotted 100 tonnes, Nava said they expect that the supply of mangoes for this year’s festival is less compared to previous Manggahan festivals due to La Nina.

He said that growers have delayed induction of their mango trees because it was still raining until February this year.

However, the provincial agriculturist assured that if the demand is high during Manggahan Festival, they will increase the supply allocation. (With reports from the Provincial Government of Guimaras)/PN
