1,072 fisherfolks to receive fuel subsidy

ROXAS City – In Capiz, 1,072 fisherfolks with motorboats are expected to receive fuel subsidy in the form of discount cards from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Each fisherfolk will receive P3,000 worth of fuel subsidy they can use to purchase engine fuel for their fishing operations.

BFAR Capiz Field Office public information officer Lorelyn Ofalla said the fuel discount for farmers and fisherfolks aims to cushion the impact of rising oil prices on the local fishing industry.

“A face-to-face validation of the beneficiaries is ongoing to give the qualified recipients a fuel discount card that would reduce their fuel expenses amid the rising oil prices,” Ofalla said.

Based on BFAR Provincial Office data, the beneficiaries come from the coastal towns of Ivisan (193), Panay (250), Pilar (78), Pontevedra (100), President Roxas (185), Sapian (36), and Roxas City (230).

The beneficiaries only need to visit the government’s partner gasoline stations for the program and present their discount cards to avail of the government’s subsidy.

The fuel subsidy is part of the P500-million, pursuant to the Special Provision No. 20 of the General Appropriation Act for Fiscal Year 2022, that will be used to provide fuel discount to farmers and fisherfolk owning and operating agricultural and fishery machinery individually or through a farmer organization, cooperative or association.
