ILOILO City – Eleven illegal gambling suspects were arrested early morning of April 5 in Barangay Caingin, La Paz district.
They were caught playing pusoy during a raid conducted at 2:50 a.m., said Police Captain Marlon Perez of the La Paz police station.
The suspects were Rodelio Pumones, 63, from Barangay Lopez Jeana Norte; Ritchel Ann Billosa, 25, from Barangay Sinikway, Lapuz; Dyonee Jiz, 36, from Barangay Ingore; Roel Depablus, 50, and Charee Villar, 32, both from Bo. Obrero, Lapuz; Rey Libiano, 45, and Jonel Gelleto, 49, both from Barangay Baldoza; Vincent Barrientos, 37, Jasmin Gustilo, 58, and Romeo Parreño, all from Barangay Ingore; and Joshua Patingan, 26, from the site of the raid in Barangay Caingin.
The arrests were made as part of a crackdown on illegal gambling activities, specifically targeting the game of “pusoy” which is known for its high stakes.
Items seized at the scene included gambling funds totaling P6,760, playing cards, 10 chairs, tables, and other gambling paraphernalia.
The suspects face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1602, which penalizes engaging in illegal gambling activities./PN
