KALIBO, Aklan – Almost 4,000 people died in Aklan in 2016, and most of them were from this capital town.
Death incidence rose almost 7 percent to 3,925 last year from 3,688 in 2015. This meant 11 persons died every day in 2016, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said, citing registered death certificates.
Kalibo posted the highest number of deaths with 1,637, or 42 percent of the total — up 13 percent from 1,455 in 2015. Ibajay and Malay followed with 305 (8 percent) and 209 (5 percent), respectively.
But Madalag had the highest rise in death incidence: 37 percent (107 in 2016 from 78 in 2015). Makato followed with 28 percent (136 in 2016 from 106 in 2015), while Altavas had 23 percent (161 in 2016 from 131 in 2015).
Buruanga had the highest drop in death occurrence with 25 percent (73 in 2016 from 97 in 2015). Banga had 21 percent (162 in 2016 from 206 in 2015).
Most of the deaths happened in September and November: 366 and 358, respectively, or an average of 12 deaths a day. In contrast, October had the least deaths with 281, or an average of nine deaths a day.
The data were taken from death certificates that 17 local civil registry offices submit to the PSA every end of the month, according to Provincial Statistics Officer Antonet Catubuan./PN
