11 WV villages have COVID-19 ‘clusters’

ILOILO City – Eleven villages in Western Visayas reported clustering of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

These barangays registered two or more local cases in the last 14 days, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6. 

The 11 barangays were the following:

* Tabuc Suba, Jaro, Iloilo City (15 cases)

* Cubay, Jaro, Iloilo City (11 cases)

* Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City (10 cases)

* Tigum, Baruanga, Aklan (nine cases)

* Calumpang, Molo, Iloilo City (nine cases)

* Villamonte, Bacolod City (nine cases)

* Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (eight cases)

* Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City (eight cases)

* Estefania, Bacolod City (eight cases)

* Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo (seven cases)

* Bolilao, Mandurriao, Iloilo City (seven cases)

“The top barangays having the most active cases sa Western Visayas are currently in the areas of Iloilo City, Bacolod City and Iloilo province,” said Dr. Jane Juanico, medical officer of DOH-6.

She advised local government units of concerned areas to impose partial or localized lockdowns to stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

As of Dec. 17, Western Visayas had a total of 20,497confirmed COVID-19 cases, 19,075 of which recovered while 615 died, leaving the number of active cases at 1,252.

People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales./PN
