KALIBO, Aklan – As of Oct. 23, the province of Aklan had fully vaccinated 116,335 individuals, accounting for 24.86 percent of its eligible population, the Regional Vaccination Operations Center figures showed.
Still, 174,995 or 40.92 percent of eligible residents have received their first shot and were waiting for their second shot to be considered fully vaccinated, too.
COVID-19 vaccines made by Pfizer, Moderna, Sputnik, AstraZeneca, Johnson and Johnson, and Sinovac were being administered in Aklan.
Health authorities target to fully vaccinate 70 percent or 427,000 of Aklan’s eligible population before further easing quarantine restrictions across the province.
Meanwhile, 11,779 doses have been inoculated to tourism workers in Boracay Island out of 12,809 or 91.96 percent. Plus, about 77.86 percent of residents had received their second dose.
With the accelerated pace of vaccination and steady supply of vaccines, Boracay Island will soon require fully vaccinated incoming travellers to submit their vaccination cards instead of negative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results.
Aklan seems on track for a new and more relaxed community quarantine status on Nov. 1 as the current reproduction numbers of COVID-19 are considered at low levels.
To date, the province is under general community quarantine until Oct. 31.
On Saturday, Aklan reported another drop in new infections since battling the COVID-19 in March last year. There were no new local cases and deaths on Oct. 23.
A total of 319 people died of COVID-19 and 12,616 confirmed cases were recorded since last year./PN
