ILOILO â The provincial government broke ground for the construction of a 12.4-kilometer concrete road from Barangay Cabugao to Barangay Tuyongan in Calinog, Iloilo.
The project is part of the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) for road repair, rehabilitation and improvement by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
DILG gave Iloilo province a grant of P413 million this year for the CMGP. Iloilo province availed of the grant because it has consistently obtained the Seal of Good Local Governance and it has complied with the requirements set by the DILG.
The 12.4-kilometer concrete road will traverse the following Calinog barangays: Cabugao, Badlan Pequeño, Badlan Grande, Banban Grande, Badlan Pequeño, Alibunan and Tuyongan.
Mountainous barangays such as Supanga, Binulusan and Cahigon will also benefit from the project because it is their only access in going to the town proper.
âThis project has long been a dream of our people and we thank Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. for making this happen,â said Mayor Alex Centena.
Provincial Engineer Gracianito Lucero said the road project has a standard width of 6.1 meters and thickness of 10 inches.
It will be implemented by the International Builders Corp. (IBC) with a project cost of P160.8 million and project duration of 308 calendar days.
âI know how important is this road to you⊠your sacrifices, your hardships will soon end,â Governoor Defensor told the people of Calinog during the projectâs groundbreaking on Oct. 27.
He added: âWe are planning to extend the road concreting up to the mountainous barangays of Supanga and Cahigon. I hope it will be realized with the help of other funding agencies.â (Erly Garcia, Capitol News/PN)
