SAN JOSE, Antique – Twelve local government units (LGUs) in this province have submitted to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) their approved ordinances on quarantine and health safety standard protocols against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This was according to DILG provincial director Cheryl Tacda, adding that the LGUs have submitted their measures before the deadline on Friday, Aug. 14.
According to Tacda, the local legislation is based on DILG Memorandum Circular last July 23, which is the “Enactment And/Or Amendment of Existing Local Ordinances to Include Penal Provisions to Strengthen Implementation of Quarantine and Health Safety Standard Protocols to Contain COVID-19.”
“The first LGU to submit their ordinance was Sibalom on April 16,” she said.

The other LGUs who also submitted their respective measures were Belison, Bugasong, Caluya, Hamtic, Libertad, Pandan, San Remigio, Sebaste, Tibiao, and, Tobias Fornier, and this capital town.

Tacda said the ordinance on quarantine and health safety standard protocols is necessary because it will provide the local police a legal basis in the filing of charges against violators.

The protocols include the mandatory wearing of face masks, safe physical distancing and frequent handwashing.

“The ordinances could also be of big help to our national officials in crafting subsequent policies in our fight against COVID-19,” she said. (With a report from PNA/PN)
