ROXAS City – From Jan. 9 to June 8 this year, 12 persons in Capiz were arrested for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec)’ gun ban, data from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) showed.
The five-month gun ban, in view of the May 9 national and local elections, led to the confiscation of eight firearms, six bladed weapons and 29 ammunition, said CPPO public information officer Police Major Ruby Magallanes.
“The Comelec checkpoints have ended. In this regard, all concerned police units shall revert to the conduct of regular checkpoint operation,” she said.
The gun ban offenders in the province formed part of the 240 violators in the region during the period.
Under Resolution No. 10728, the Comelec prohibits the bearing, carrying and/or transporting of firearms or deadly weapons outside of the residence and in all public places during the 150-day gun ban period.
The CPPO has also no recorded election – related incidents before, during and after the polls. (PIA-Capiz/PN)
