12 Bacolod athletes compete in nat’l paralympics

BACOLOD City – The city government has sent 12 athletes to compete in the 3rd PSC-PHILSPADA at the Marikina Sports Center in Metro Manila.

The sports competition for the differently-abled started yesterday and will wrap up on the 25th.

Team Bacolod is composed of Eric Abanco, Ismael Solivio, Ron Joseph Reyes, Enrico Tan, Alejandro Sagaran, Dorel Padilla, Manuel Song, Lowell Raner, Arnold Ardosa, Stephen Garzon, Eric Villanueva and David Galampano.

The Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA) – National Paralympics Committee regional chairman Melchor Tumbos appointed Raner and Ardosa as delegation officials.

In this national competition, 800 athletes, coaches and officials from all over the country are seeing action.

Ten sports events will be contested:

  • athletics
  • badminton
  • boccia
  • chess
  • goalball
  • power lifting
  • swimming
  • table tennis
  • tenpin bowling
  • wheelchair basketball, and
  • demo sports for wheelchair dance, cycling and archery.

The winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals.

The Bacolod team will compete in athletics, badminton, table tennis, power lifting, bowling and swimming.

Enrico Tan will compete in power lifting; Dorel Padilla in the wheelchair race; and Eric Villanueva in swimming.

The city government is subsidizing the team’s transportation expenses, official uniform and food allowance./PN
