ILOILO City – Twelve passengers sustained injuries while traveling on a jeepney that lost its brakes in the national highway of Barangay Acuit, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Injured were Nelson Canamo, 45; Lovelyn Milares, 19; April Joy Alzeres, 22; Alicia Piocos, 63; Riza Mae Yap, 20; Viterbo Duran, 53; Dianne May Diasnes, Floridel Gerardo, Anne Marjorie Diasnes, Amanda Nicole Diasnes, Jason Libo, and Rodolfo Biocos, 40.
The victims sustained minor injuries on the different parts of their bodies and were taken to the hospital in Barotac Nuevo, said Senior Insp. Marvin Balmes, Barotac Neuvo police chief.
Balmes said the road accident happened around 9 a.m. while the Dumangas passenger jeepney driven by Gil Diocades, 37, was heading towards Barotac Nuevo.
It was not clear where the jeepney slammed after losing brakes.
Diocades, detained at the Barotac Nuevo police station, said the owner of the jeepney would shoulder all of the injured persons’ hospital expenses./PN
