12,000 Ilonggos receive COVID-19 vaccine

ILOILO – Over 12, 000 Ilonggos already received vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“As of April 23, 12,803 Ilonggos already got their shots, of which 581 were senior citizens,” said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, acting chief of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Around 1,480 of the vaccinees already received their second dose, she noted.

The provincial government has been using the China-made CoronaVac and the AstraZeneca vaccines.

The provincial government is currently waiting for the Department of Health’s (DOH) more vaccine allocation which would be distributed to the province’s 42 towns and one component city.

With this, Quiñon is encouraging the public to register for the vaccination.

“They can contact their barangay officials or Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams,” she said.

Quiñon once again underscored the vaccine’s effectiveness  against COVID-19, aside from the strict compliance to minimum health protocols.

“Now that we have a chance to be protected, let us grab it. Always remember, COVID kills,” she stressed./PN
