1,321 ‘sari-sari’ store rice retailers get P19.8M cash aid

ILOILO – An additional subsidy of P19.8 million was released to 1,321 sari-sari store owners in Western Visayas on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Here’s the breakdown of beneficiaries, based on the Department of Trade and Industry Region 6 data:

* Aklan – 288 beneficiaries (P4.3 million)

* Antique – 148 beneficiaries (P2.2 million)

* Capiz – 147 beneficiaries (P2.2 million)

* Iloilo City – six beneficiaries (P90,000)

* Iloilo Province – 316 beneficiaries (P4.7 million)

* Guimaras – 81 beneficiaries (P1.2 million)

* Negros Occidental – 335 beneficiaries (P5 million)

The one-time P15,000 grant under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program was for retailers affected by the rice price ceiling.

The DSWD Region 6, headed by Atty. Carmelo Nochete, first released the subsidy of P3.75 million to 250 micro rice retailers in Western Visayas on Sept. 13 and 14.

And 967 more rice retailers received P14.5 million during the payout on Sept. 21./PN
