ILOILO City – Fourteen barangays in this city don’t have enough number of elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawads following the Oct. 30 barangay and SK elections.
The barangays per district and the number of SK kagawads seats to be filled in are as follows:
Jaro
* Balantang – one
* El 98 – two
* Libertad Sta. Isabel – two
* Luna – three
* Seminario – three
* Kahirupan – two
* Taytay Zone 2 – one
City Proper
* Delgado Jalandoni Bagumbayan – three
* Ed Ganzon – one
* Flores – two
* Osmeña – one
* President Roxas – three
* Roxas Village – one
* Yulo Arroyo – two
Atty. Reinier Layson, the Iloilo Provincial Election Supervisor and concurrent City Election Officer, however, said it is not the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) role to fill in the vacant positions.
“We are only mandated to conduct elections. Kung may kakulangan man sa mga posisyon sang kandidato sa mga certain elective positions after the conduct of elections, wala na kita diri sang mandatos nga magsulod pa ukon mag-intra pa because wala na kita dira poder,” Layson said in an interview with Bombo Radyo Iloilo.
He said such mandate belongs to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“Sa SK Reform Act, it is the DILG that can provide… paano mag-fill in sang mga vacancies nga ini sa aton mga SK,” Layson said./PN
