ILOILO City – A total of 1,443 children, including 165 top players from the city’s seven districts, participated in a free summer sports clinic of the city government in various district plazas and a mall from April 9 to 15.

“We were able to gather more than a thousand kids. They really love sports. I want to thank the parents for allowing them to participate. I hope they learned sportsmanship, developed self- confidence and teamwork,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III during the closing ceremony.

He also thanked the coaches and instructors.

“Let’s all continue to encourage this generation to engage in sports,” said Espinosa.

Karetedo player Carl Justine Tizon from the City Proper said he enjoyed the experience and learned a lot not only from his instructor but also from his co-players.

“I am happy. I met new friends. I was also able to enhance my skills in karatedo. I will invite some of my friends to join next year,” Tizon said.

Sports activities offered were arnis, wushu, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football, lawn tennis, jiu-jitsu, chess, table tennis, and karatedo.

Espinosa, together with City Administrator Hernando Galvez and City Sports Division officer-in-charge Moises Salomon, led the awarding of medals to the top players and certificates to the participants. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
